GTA Mavericks

GTA Mavericks offers a variety of basketball programs throughout the year for all ages and all levels of experience. We run week long camps in the summer for 9 weeks along with House League and Rep programs from Fall to Spring.

With our high-level coaches and exceptional drills, we take skill development seriously. We transform kids into athletes who are ready to play at an elite level.

Basketball requires more than just athleticism and talent; it requires a strong and healthy mind. Our coaches act as mentors, provide life advice, and help young minds prosper as they grow.

STAY HEALTHY

We stress a healthy lifestyle on and off the court! Through the game itself, conditioning, and healthy lifestyle advice from our coaches, our athletes stay in good shape year-round.

STAY ORGANIZED

We stress proper time management here at the Mavericks. School is top priority! If basketball ever starts to worsen your school grades, we will not let you play.

BE A TEAM PLAYER

On the court and in life, you must be able to help and rely on others. others. Our athletes learn the importance of teamwork through basketball and create meaningful connections with all their teammates.

GET COMPETITIVE

We create an age-appropriate competitive environment so that all athletes have a chance to play. This allows for everyone to test their newfound skills and improve their playing style.

SUMMER CAMP

Essence of camp: Our summer camps provide children with full days of basketball and fun! With different basketball drills, strength and stamina conditioning, and a variety of different activities kids will improve their skills and build lasting friendships! By the end of camp, every child will see a significant improvement in their ability and asking to come back for more!

Ages: 4 – 15 years old

Where: St. Cecilia Catholic School (300 Peter Rupert Ave)

When: Beginning of July – End of August

HOUSE LEAGUE

Essence of House League: House League programs are designed for beginner and intermediate level athletes. Programs are held at the same location and at the same time each week for convenience. Each session consists of an equal mix of training time with our high level coaches and playing time in a friendly and fun competitive environment!

Ages: 4 – 15 years old

Where: Nellie McClung Public School (360 Thomas Cook Ave)

When: Fall (Sept. 25 – Dec. 11), Winter (Jan. 15 – Apr. 2), Spring (Apr. 9 – June 8)

REP BASKETBALL

Essence of Rep Basketball: Try outs are held at the end of August/beginning of September to select advanced athletes to join our Rep team. Our Rep athletes practice 2-3 times a week with our elite coaches and fitness specialists to improve their skills, mind, and health in order to compete at a high level. Rep athletes compete in 15-25 games/tournaments around Ontario under the Ontario Basketball Association.

Mishel SchwartzFounder / President

Mishel has been passionate about basketball his whole life. He started playing from a young age and worked his way up to represent Toronto at the Maccabi games where he competed with other star athletes from around the world and gained a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Prior to founding GTA Mavericks, Mishel was a prominent key to the growth of Thornhill Thunder where he served as the House League Coordinator and Coach. He also worked in many leadership positions at the UJA Federation where he headed many youth initiatives and received invaluable experience working with kids. Needless to say, Mishel is a skilled strategist and leader with the capacity to grow GTA Mavericks into an elite player development centre.

After multiple successful entrepreneurial ventures, Mishel decided to start GTA Mavericks in order to help kids pursue their passions and talents, on and off the court.

Jake OhanaDirector of Operations

Jake is one of the best up-and-coming coaches that you can find in Canada. He has dedicated his life to the game of basketball and is fuelled by his NCAA playing experience and time training with top talent in the world, including numerous NBA players that he used to play alongside with.

Now, he is committed to passing on his extensive knowledge and expertise to help the younger generation achieve their full potential through basketball. Whether it’s helping someone earn a scholarship, improve their jump shot and handles, or simply have fun with the game of basketball, Jake knows what it takes to help your child fulfill their immediate and long-term goals in life and sport.

If being the best version of yourself is what you desire, then Coach Jake will put in countless hours to help you achieve that.
