Essential Resources for Safe and Accessible Sport

Essential Resources for Safe and Accessible Sport

At GTA Mavericks, we’re committed to creating a safe, supportive, and accessible environment for all participants. Below are important resources we encourage our community members to be aware of and utilize when needed.

Canadian Sport Helpline

The Canadian Sport Helpline provides a safe place for victims or witnesses of harassment, abuse or discrimination to receive guidance, or simply to speak in confidence with a neutral third party to get the help you need.

Website: abuse-free-sport.ca/helpline

The helpline offers professional listening and referral services by phone or text at 1-888-83-SPORT (77678) or by email at info@abuse-free-sport.ca.

Rule of Two

The Rule of Two is a critical coaching practice that helps create a safe sporting environment. It states that any one-on-one interaction between a coach and an athlete must take place within earshot and view of a second coach, parent, or screened volunteer.

Implementing the Rule of Two ensures that:

  • No minor is left alone with a single adult
  • Vulnerable situations and the risk for abuse are reduced
  • A more positive environment for both athletes and coaches is maintained

Financial Support Programs

We believe that financial barriers should never prevent children from participating in sports. These programs can help families cover registration fees, equipment costs, and other sport-related expenses:

Canadian Tire Jumpstart

Jumpstart helps kids overcome financial barriers to sport and recreation to provide inclusive play for kids of all abilities.

KidSport Canada

KidSport provides grants to help children aged 18 and under participate in a sport season of their choice.
